ST bus tracking in Gujarat, explained

Most Gujarat commuters still find their ST bus the old way — a phone call, a guess, or standing at the stand and waiting to see. Here's what each of those actually gets you, and where live tracking saves real time.

How people track an ST bus today

Calling the depot

Reliable when someone picks up, but the person answering usually has no better view of the bus than you do — they're reading the same schedule, not a live feed. It also only works during depot hours.

Asking at the stand

"It usually comes around this time" is a habit, not a position. It works fine on a normal day and tells you nothing on a day the bus is running late, replaced, or cancelled.

The printed or app timetable

A schedule is a plan, not a report. It's the right starting point for which buses exist on a route, but it can't tell you that today's 6:40 is running 20 minutes behind — only where it's supposed to be.

Live GPS tracking

This is the one method reading the bus's actual position. It answers the specific question a timetable can't: where is this bus right now, and does that mean I should leave for the stand yet. See how the live position itself works.

Two ways to search

If you already know the bus — you saw it leave, or a driver told you the plate — search by number and go straight to its live map. If you don't, search by the two stations you're travelling between instead: ST Tracker lists every scheduled and running service on that pair, with live countdowns for the ones already on the road.

Both paths lead to the same live map, the same stop-by-stop route, and the same option to set an alert for the stop you're waiting at.

Questions people ask

What is an ST bus?

ST stands for State Transport — the buses run by GSRTC (Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation) across the state. "ST bus" and "GSRTC bus" refer to the same fleet; ST is simply the older, more common name among riders.

Can I track an ST bus without knowing its number?

Yes. Search by the two stations you're travelling between instead of a plate number, and pick any departure from the list of live and upcoming buses.

Does ST bus tracking work for private buses too?

No. ST Tracker only covers GSRTC's own ST fleet, since that is the operator whose position data it reads. Private travel operators run separate systems.
